SLICE Mode

Turn on SLICE and GRNi cuts your sample into slices, one per key, each at its original pitch. Cut on the hits (TRANSIENTS) or on the beat (GRID: every bar or beat, locked to your DAW tempo or your own BPM). Drag, add or delete markers, with snapping to the beat lines. Play slices forward, reversed or ping-pong, and set SPEED from a freeze on the hit through real time to double. Layers A and B keep their own slices.

One-Sided Modulation Arcs

New modulation routes start at the knob and sweep one way. Drag past the knob to sweep the other way, or right-click the arc and pick Bipolar to sweep both sides. Existing projects and presets sound exactly the same.

Connection Dots

The LFO and ENV tabs show dots for how many places each one is modulating.

Questions

Is GRNi the same as GRN?

No. GRNi grew out of GRN's grain engine, but they're separate products. GRN is an effect that granulates the audio already on your track; GRNi is an instrument that granulates a sample you load and plays it over MIDI. Serials are not interchangeable.

Can I use my own samples?

That's the whole point. Drop a WAV, AIFF, FLAC, OGG or MP3 onto the plugin from your file browser, or click LOAD to pick one. On Windows, drags straight from Splice or the Ableton browser land too. 60 seconds are kept in full per layer at 48 kHz (65 seconds at 44.1 kHz, 30 seconds at 96 kHz).

Do presets replace my sample?

No. Presets carry engine settings only. Your samples, selections, layer levels and blend survive preset switching, so you audition the whole bank against your own material.

Does GRNi support MPE?

Yes. Per-note pitch bend (which survives into release tails), per-note pressure into level, and slide moves each note's read position through the sample. It also plays fine from any regular MIDI keyboard, or the on-screen keys.
